International Center for the Disabled Hires Picture World Hope to Document Program in Harlem

February 2009 - International Center for the Disabled, or ICD, has contracted with Picture World Hope to produce stills and video footage to be used in fund-raising efforts and awareness campaigns. PWH photographer Mark Atkinson spent two days filming at PS 146 in East Harlem and at student homes. For the past 15 years, ICD has operated the Pediatric Mental Health Clinic at this public school to provide critical therapeutic services to the students onsite at their school, as well as support services to parents, teachers and staff. PS 146 is New York City’s only barrier-free school and 1/3 of the students have physical disabilities. Atkinson’s still images will be used in a direct mail campaign, and video footage will be used for other awareness and fundraising efforts.

Kathleen Hennessy’s editing vision was crucial to the success of Pulitzer Prize winning photo story of an Iraqi boy’s struggle for his life. Her perseverance on the story was relentless. Her gut instincts and her judgment was always just right.
