Barbara Ries, Executive Producer, Photographer
Barbara was named a Pulitzer Prize second place finalist in photography. She is a former staff photographer for USA TODAY, where she was assigned to cover conflicts and economic struggles in Nicaragua and El Salvador: U.S. presidential campaigns and Capitol Hill and White House coverage during two administrations. She has worked for Newsweek, Time, Fortune, Business Week, Stanford, US News & World Report and National Geographic World magazines. She is a contributing photographer with Saveur magazine and Marin Extraordinary Living magazine.
Ries’s images have won awards from the National Press Photographers Association and The White House News Photographers Association. Her photo essays have been published in A Day in the Life of the American Woman and A Day in the Life of the U.S. Armed Forces, both published by Harper Collins.
She served as the team photographer for the non-profit Operation Smile on medical missions to North Africa and South America. She was a principal photographer on an expedition across Tibet and China, with the first Sino-U.S. collaborative team to travel by raft from the source of the Yangtze River.
